Returning to her native New England after 27 years on
the Oregon coast, Wendy joined us as the Office Manager at Immanuel in
September 2001. Besides the usual reception/office duties, other aspects of
her job include coordinating building use by outside groups, liaison for
people in need through Immanuel’s Food Pantry, and occasionally even the
church lot parking violations-and-enforcement! In 2002, she became active
on the EarthCare team at Immanuel, part of an interfaith, statewide network
initiated by the Maine Council of Churches, and she has joined others from
Immanuel volunteering monthly at the Wayside Soup Kitchen. She appreciates
the broad scope of Immanuel’s Outreach, the inclusive nature of its
ministry, and is impressed by the high level of volunteer activity of our
church.
Wendy’s first full-time job, age nineteen, was as the
school’s receptionist and office assistant at the Harvard Divinity School—to
give some perspective, during the tenure of Dean Krister Stendahl, of a
faculty that included Peter Gomes, John Carman, and Harvey Cox.

In Oregon, while raising her children, she worked for
ten years as the Medical Assistant in a rural health clinic. Her most
recent job before coming to Maine was at Oregon Coast Community College
where she helped promote education about environmentally sustainable
strategies for regional small businesses.
Wendy has two grown children (a son in Massachusetts
and a daughter in California). She enjoys walking, reading, swimming,
playing tennis, and occasional skiing. Fluent in French, she also hopes to
continue her studies in Spanish. She loves to travel and has lived in
France, visited family in England several times, and has twice been to
India.
